Kathmandu to Lhasa Budget Tour : 8 days fixed departure tour
TRIP OVERVIEW:
Entry Point: Zhangmu (also known as Kodari in Nepal side)
Exit Point: Lhasa (You can fly out from Lhasa to Kathmandu or any other Major city of Mainland China). Alternatively you can also make a memorable train journey from Lhasa to Mainland China.

The tour departs for Lhasa from Kathmandu every SATURDAY and TUESDAY on joining basis. This is the only cheapest tour we organize from Kathmandu for individual budget travelers and our company provides very basic service on the way.
En route to Lhasa, you will pass through some major highlighted places of central Tibet like Lao Tingri village (if weather permits you can see the distance view of the Mt. Everest from here) Shigatse (the second largest city of Tibet and the Tashilungpu is the Throne of Panchen Lama), Gyantse (the ancient trading hub of Tibet), Kamba-La (a glacier high pass) and Yam Druk Tso (the largest fresh water lake of Tibet, also called Turquoise Lake).
The tour consists of a two-days sightseeing tour within Lhasa. During the two days sightseeing tour, you will visit the Potala Palace (the residence of Dalai Lama), the Norbulinkha Palace (the summer residence of Dalai Lama), Jokhang temple & Barkhor Square, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery.
On the last day ( Day 8 ) you will be escorted to the Gonggar Airport, so you can fly out from Lhasa (either to Kathmandu OR to any other city of mainland China). Alternatively, you can also make a “HIGHEST TRAIN JOURNEY” on Earth and travel to mainland China. From Lhasa, you can take a train ride to Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Xining etc.
Travelers with different purposes participate in this tour. Some of them would like to head out mainland China after finishing tour in Lhasa. And, some would like to fly out from Lhasa to mainland China OR Kathmandu. However, this program suits to all of them. We make one group permit for all members but different group visa, so once you finish the tour in Lhasa, you can simply separate with others and travel to your destination.
DAY TO DAY PROGRAM:
Day 01: Drive, Kathmandu to Nyalam (3750 m.): 7 hours
Early morning drive, from Kathmandu to Nepal-Tibet border (Kodari) by private vehicle. After finishing immigration formalities both Nepal & China side, you will continue up the steep switch back road to Nyalam.

Day 02: Drive, Nyalam to Lhatse (3950 m.): 7 hours
Morning after breakfast, you will commence your journey to the further destination, Lhatse. Right after the Nyalam (after 10 km), you will stop for approximately 15 minutes to visit Milareppa cave (Cave Monastery). After visiting the Cave Monastery, you will make your journey ahead to Lablung-La Pass (also called Nyalam Thong-La: 5100 m). You will stop on this pass for a while to see the breath taking views of the Himalaya including the highest mountain of Tibet (Shisapangma) on the far right hand side.
The next town comes Lao Tingri where travelers normally stop for lunch break. If the weather is clear you can see the distance View of the Mt. Everest and Mt. Cho-Oyu from here. After Lao Tingri, you will continue drive to Lhatse via Xegar (Tingri) and Gyajo-La Pass.

Day 03: Drive, Lhatse to Shigatse (3900 m.): 5 hours
Morning after breakfast, you will start your journey to Shigatse. Today, you will drive through only one high-pass that comes right after Lhatse. Shigatse is the second largest city of Tibet. The famous Tashilungpo Monastery is situated here in this town. Tashilungpu Monastery is the throne of Panchen Lama and he is the second biggest religious figure in Tibet.

Day 04: Drive, Shigatse to Gyantse (3950 m.): 3 hours
After visiting Tashilhunpo Monastery in the morning, it’s a short drive to Gyantse with its amazing sites – Palkhor Chode Monastery, Khumbum Stupa, and Gyantse Dzong. Gyantse used to be the ancient trading hub of Tibet. From here, Tibet used to trade with India and Nepal. You will visit monuments in Gyantse at the after noon time and evening is free.

Day 05: Drive, Gyantse to Lhasa (3650 m.) via Yamdruk Lake: 7 hours
Early morning after breakfast, you will start your journey to the capital city of Tibet. The highlight of this day is the beautiful turquoise lake (Yamdruk Tso, the largest fresh water Lake in Tibet) and Karo-La Pass (Glacier Pass). After crossing Kamba-La and the Yarlung River (River Brahmaputra), the journey ends in Lhasa.

Day 06: A full day Lhasa tour
Lhasa tour – you will visit Jokhang temple, Barkhor Square and Potala Palace (the residence of Dalai Lama).

Day 07: A full day Lhasa tour
Lhasa tour – today you will visit Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery.
Drepung Monastery is situated on the Western part of Lhasa city. The Monastery was built on 1416 and it is spread in the area of 20,000 Square Kilometer. During the reign of 5th Dalai Lama, the Monastery was resided by 10,000 Monks.
Sera Monastery was founded in 1419 and it used to be one the most powerful Monastery in Tibet. The Monastery is situated on the northern corner of Lhasa

Day 08: Tour Finish
Today, you may depart from Lhasa. You can fly out from Lhasa to Kathmandu or any other major city of China. Alternatively you can also make a memorable train journey from Lhasa to Mainland China.
